p>Prof. Zamir Halperin is a gastroenterologist and hepatologist at Sourasky Medical Center. He has authored over 150 scientific publications on gastrointestinal and liver diseases. The specialist earned the Bat-Sheva de Rothschild Prize for his scientific achievements.

Clinical Focus and Expertise

Prof. Halperin specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of digestive tract disorders. His practice covers inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), cirrhosis, and fatty liver disease. He also treats cholelithiasis, chronic gastritis, and Barrett's esophagus.

The doctor uses advanced endoscopy for precise diagnostic imaging and intervention. This includes capsule endoscopy — a procedure where a patient swallows a tiny camera to record the digestive tract. He also performs gastroscopy with polyp removal. His approach covers both upper intestinal tract diseases and colorectal pathologies.

Education and Academic Roles

Prof. Halperin completed his medical degree at Hebrew University, Hadassah, Jerusalem, between 1970 and 1977. He later earned a Master of Internal Medicine from the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University in 1986. During this period, he also served as a Lecturer in Medicine at the same institution.

The doctor pursued a research fellowship in gastroenterology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in the USA from 1984 to 1985. He then completed clinical training in liver diseases at the Royal Free Hospital in London in 1990. Additionally, he has served as the Head of the Internal Medicine Course at Tel Aviv University.

He achieved the rank of Associate Professor in 1992 and became a Professor at the Sackler School of Medicine in 2000. Prof. Halperin has supervised several doctoral and master's candidates. His research has addressed topics such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and intestinal mucosal immunology.
