Top-rated scoliosis surgeons in Turkey include Dr. Kamil Cagri Kose, Prof. Onur Yaman, and Prof. Salih Aydin. These specialists hold international fellowships and memberships in the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS). They treat complex spinal curvatures at JCI-accredited centers such as Memorial Bahcelievler and Yeditepe University Hospital.
Bookimed Expert Insight: Top Turkish surgeons often hold dual specialization in neurosurgery and orthopedics. This combination is vital because scoliosis surgery involves both bone correction and spinal cord protection. Specialists at Memorial and Hisar centers frequently participate in international research to refine non-fusion techniques.
Patient Consensus: Patients often mention how clearly the surgeons explain the spinal correction process. Many felt relieved when the medical teams provided detailed post-op plans for walking and physical therapy. The presence of professional English-speaking staff made navigating the surgical recovery much easier for international families.
Choose a scoliosis doctor in Turkey by prioritizing board-certified surgeons with 20+ years of experience. Focus on specialists who hold international fellowships and work at JCI-accredited centers. These doctors use robotic guidance and neuromonitoring to ensure high surgical precision and patient safety.
Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows that top Turkish spinal surgeons often hold academic positions at university hospitals. Dr. Yusuf Bayram at Hisar Hospital and Dr. Yunus Uysal at Turan Turan both exemplify this. This academic involvement means they use the latest research-backed methods, not just routine techniques.
Patient Consensus: Patients often mention feeling relieved when they see a 3D model of their planned correction. They appreciate when translators bridge the gap, making complex surgical steps easy to understand.
Turkish scoliosis surgeons use robotic systems like Mazor X to improve surgical accuracy and safety. Centers such as Turan Turan Health Group and Anadolu Medical Center use these tools. This technology helps surgeons place spinal screws with precision, which protects nearby delicate nerves.
Bookimed Expert Insight: Specialists at Turan Turan Health Group were the first to use Mazor X in Turkey. For patients, this means choosing a team that pioneered robotic spinal methods in the region. Their specialists have integrated these tools into standard care for complex spinal curves.
Patient Consensus: Patients often mention feeling surprised by how quickly they could walk after robotic surgery. Many noted that the smaller scars and lower pain levels made their hospital stay easier.
Vertebral body tethering (VBT) is widely available in Turkey for treating scoliosis in growing children. Specialists move the spine with a flexible cord instead of metal rods. This preserves motion and allows the patient to stay active after recovery.
Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish specialists were early adopters of VBT technology in the Mediterranean region. Dr. Ahmet Alanay has managed 100+ VBT cases at Acibadem Maslak. This high volume means the surgical team is highly familiar with the tensioning process. Proper cord tension is vital for achieving the correct spine alignment as the child grows.
Patient Consensus: Parents noticed their children returned to sports and gymnastics much faster than with fusion. One family mentioned their daughter was walking comfortably just days after her procedure in Istanbul.
Scoliosis surgery in Turkey is safe due to surgeons with 20+ years of experience. Many hold certification from the European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EBOT). Hospitals follow JCI safety standards. This means they meet the same strict hygiene rules as top American clinics.
Bookimed Expert Insight: Top Turkish surgeons often specialize in specific scoliosis types, such as adolescent idiopathic or adult degenerative. Choosing a specialist like Dr. Necdet Altun at Medicana Haznedar, who has over 40 years of experience, provides access to decades of surgical data and refined techniques. This deep specialization often leads to better cosmetic results and more flexible spine movement after surgery.
Patient Consensus: Patients often mention feeling relieved by the intensive care they receive in the hospital. One traveler noted that the surgical team visited multiple times a day to manage pain. Others felt more secure because the staff organized every detail from airport pickup to medications.
Turkish scoliosis doctors offer remote follow-up through video consultations and digital imaging reviews. Specialists like Dr. Ahmet Alanay at Acibadem Maslak and Dr. Bekir Yavuz Ucar at Medipol Mega use secure portals. This lets them track your spinal fusion progress after you return home.
Bookimed Expert Insight: Top Turkish surgeons like Dr. Ahmet Alanay hold international memberships in the Scoliosis Research Society. This means they follow global protocols for long-term patient monitoring and surgical stability. Their teams often include coordinators who specialize in remote data sharing for international cases.
Patient Consensus: Patients mention feeling surprised by how easy it was to connect with their surgeons. One patient felt much safer knowing their doctor reviewed their local X-rays from home. Many noted that the detailed medical files in English helped their local therapists continue the treatment.
